Henry Tang

Biotechnology Specialist

“Importantly, the firm has taught me how to communicate with people (especially with clients) in a clear and efficient way, and to improve my organization skills to work more efficiently.”

How was Japan in reality to what you had imagined before you arrived?

It's much more fast paced and vibrant than I thought it would be.

How would you describe co-workers when you arrived?

Extremely friendly and helpful, and fun people!

What were the initial difficulties of adjusting to life in Osaka?

I found the language barrier the hardest to adjust to, and the extremely complicated train and subway maps.

Do you feel like you're having an impact directly on the clients that you work for?

Yes, I have an impact on the clients, especially when I learn and understand more about the technologies or inventions they want to protect.

What have been your three fondest leisure experiences in Japan?

Seeing sakura (cherry blossoms) and enjoying onsen, visiting various world heritage sites and different parts of Japan, and eat chicken karage!

What are the challenging or difficult aspects of your work?

One of the greatest challenges for me is to be able to learn and gain a thorough understanding of the different technologies in a short period of time, and to be able to prioritize my work so I can complete each task thoroughly and efficiently.

When I am not at work, I am ...

travelling around to see all the great scenery and wonderful history of Japan, and enjoying all the lovely food.

What is the most important thing that working at SY has taught you about yourself?

Working at SY has made me realize my strengths and my weaknesses, especially in areas such as communications, and problem handling and solving. Importantly, the firm has taught me how to communicate with people (especially with clients) in a clear and efficient way, and to improve my organization skills to work more efficiently.

I would tell someone just starting their career here at SY to ...

have an open mind and learn from the great minds in the Firm, and to enjoy the omotenashi of Japan.
