Sophie Sam-Soon

Assistant

“Where there is a will, there is a way: working at the Firm has toughened me up and taught me how to push my limits.”

How was Japan in reality to what you had imagined before you arrived?

Regarding the food, Japan was pretty much how I imagined it to be. But regarding the people, I was very surprised to see that people here are respectful and I really appreciate how they will do their best to help you even though they cannot speak English.

What were the initial difficulties of adjusting to life in Japan?

The language barrier was a bit hard at first because very few people are fluent in English. Also, since I came during winter, the climate was a bit different to what I'm usually used to.

How would you describe the atmosphere within your team?

We do get really busy at times but we always manage to help out each other so it's a positive work environment.

Do you feel like you're having an impact directly on the clients that you work for?

Of course! It's always a pleasure to receive e-mails from clients wherein they express their happiness, satisfaction and gratitude, especially when the patent has been granted.

What are the challenging or difficult aspects of your work?

Speed and Quality: Making sure the work is delivered quickly and with no mistakes. With time we learn how to prioritize the tasks and manage our time efficiently.

What is the most important thing that working at the Firm has taught you about yourself?

Where there is a will, there is a way: working at the Firm has toughened me up and taught me how to push my limits.

I am looking forward to experience

winter in Hokkaido (I've always wanted to have a White Christmas).

What do you like to do outside of work?

Relax/Sleep and discover other parts of Japan (including the food)!

What advice would you give a potential new colleague?

Always persevere and be eager to learn.
