“Put your most into producing high quality work, and at the same time, make the most of this wonderful opportunity to experience life in Japan. Also, you should always think of your clients' needs, and how to produce the best possible work for them.”

What was the most difficult aspect of adjusting to work in Japan?

Working hard to learn all about a new job while getting used to living in a new city and making new friends.

How was Japan in reality to what you had imagined before you arrived?

The pace of work and life in Japan was a lot faster than I imagined. It was challenging and exciting.

What has been your fondest experience in Japan?

I made many good friends at the firm and we had plenty of enjoyable times together. I had a great time travelling in Japan on my holidays and weekends. Some of my fondest memories include visiting Kamakura with its beautiful shrines, temples and famous Buddha statue, visiting Disney Land and Disney Sea, and visiting Miyajima in Hiroshima with its beautiful floating shrine. I also enjoyed going to many festivals, including Gion Matsuri and Tenjin Matsuri.

What did you like most about working in Osaka?

I enjoyed working in a tight-knit team that helped each other out. Also, the work was interesting and I enjoyed researching for various cases. I had studied Japanese in university and my Japanese proficiency helped improved cooperation between the native Japanese and foreign employees in our team.

What sort of work did you get and was it challenging?

I worked in the Trademarks team on various trademark search reports, comments and reports to clients. The work was very challenging for me as I had no experience but with the guidance and help from my senior co-workers and managers, I greatly developed my professional skills as a result.

What is the most important thing that working at SY has taught you about yourself?

That if I put in enough effort and persevere, I am able to overcome my obstacles and achieve my goals.

What advice would you give to entry level recruits?

Put your most into producing high quality work, and at the same time, make the most of this wonderful opportunity to experience life in Japan. Also, you should always think of your clients' needs, and how to produce the best possible work for them.
