“I am grateful for the discipline and mental toughness that I built up at the Firm. I have strengthened my capacity to make appropriate decisions and with a high degree of confidence of what the impact will be.”

What was the most difficult aspect of adjusting to work in Japan?

Being incessantly challenged with difficult and deep scientific and legal problems - which can feel a little overwhelming at times. However, I've found that with a robust team supporting you, most challenges can be overcome...and that is empowering.

How did you cope with the stresses of working and living in Japan?

I like to cope with stress by staying active and keeping fit, either by attending the gym near work, or by doing outdoor activities.

What has been your fondest experience in Japan?

Visiting Okinawa, spending time on the beautiful beaches there, and tasting the delicious Okinawan food.

What advice would you give to entry level recruits?

The Firm is an exacting but good place to start a career. Right after confirmation, I had to work on projects that were always unique and fascinating. My basic knowledge was really stretched but my horizons expanded exponentially. You have to learn something new almost every day and step out of your comfort zone occasionally but this keeps my knowledge fresh and gives me a greater opportunity to learn. The breadth and scope of experience, technologies and clients that the Firm handles is phenomenal.

What did you like most about living and working in Osaka?

I am grateful for the discipline and mental toughness that I built up at the Firm. I have strengthened my capacity to make appropriate decisions and with a high degree of confidence of what the impact will be. I developed my analytical skills, learned to strategize feasible and elegantly simple solutions to complex problems and sharpened my written and oral communication abilities.

As for living in Osaka, I love the wide variety of restaurants and availability of different types of food from all over the world, Osaka is a great city for foodies.
